BAU Sabour Adopts Ramasi Village as India's First Official Sindoor Village under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan

In a landmark initiative to promote the cultivation, conservation, and value addition of Sindoor (Bixa orellana), Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour has officially adopted Ramasi Village in Sanhaula Block of Bhagalpur district as the "Sindoor Village." This is the first official village of its kind in India dedicated exclusively to the promotion of Sindoor cultivation and its associated livelihood opportunities. The programme was organized in the gracious presence of Shri Shubhanand Mukesh, Hon'ble Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly representing the Kahalgaon Assembly Constituency. The initiative marks a significant milestone in BAU Sabour's commitment to developing village-based crop specialization and sustainable rural livelihoods through scientific interventions. Under the guidance of the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. D. R. Singh, the University aims to transform Ramasi into a model village for Sindoor production, processing, entrepreneurship, and market linkage. Sindoor (Bixa orellana), a high-value natural dye crop known for its vibrant red pigment, possesses immense potential for use in cosmetics, food colouring, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and traditional cultural practices. Through this adoption programme, BAU will provide scientific cultivation practices, quality planting material, capacity building programmes, technical guidance, value addition technologies, and continuous handholding support to farmers. The programme is expected to generate employment opportunities, encourage women led enterprises, and promote eco-friendly natural colour production.

4 Minutes Research Findings (4MRF) Competition, 2026

Under the dynamic leadership of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Dr. D.R. Singh, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour successfully organized the 4 Minutes Research Findings (4MRF) Competition, 2026 on 9–10 July 2026. The two-day event provided postgraduate students with a unique platform to communicate their research findings effectively within four minutes, encouraging scientific communication and research excellence. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students representing constituent colleges and diverse agricultural disciplines. Distinguished university officials encouraged participants to pursue innovation, scientific integrity, and impactful research for sustainable agricultural development. Following rigorous evaluation of 45 presentations, nine outstanding students were recognized across first, second, and third positions. The event also garnered remarkable public interest, attracting over 6,000 online views through live streaming. The programme concluded with participant feedback reaffirming BAU Sabour's commitment to nurturing confident, research-oriented young scientists.

Bihar Agricultural University Concludes Rashtriya Aam Samagam-2026

Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour successfully concluded the two-day Rashtriya Aam Samagam-2026, held on 27–28 June 2026, bringing together mango growers, scientists, entrepreneurs, students, and mango enthusiasts from across India. The event served as a national platform for showcasing India's rich mango diversity, promoting scientific horticulture, and encouraging value addition and entrepreneurship in the mango sector. The inaugural session was attended virtually by the Hon'ble Governor-cum-Chancellor of Bihar and the Hon'ble Agriculture Minister, Government of Bihar, who appreciated BAU's efforts in promoting mango research, conservation, and sustainable production technologies. The Samagam featured an impressive display of around 1,000 mango varieties and more than 2,000 exhibits from Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, and Uttarakhand, making it one of the largest mango exhibitions in eastern India. The exhibition showcased elite cultivars, rare indigenous varieties, processed mango products, nursery technologies, and innovative horticultural practices. Vice Chancellor, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, stated that this event successfully connected research with farming communities while creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, technology dissemination, and market linkages.

Bihar Agricultural University Celebrates International Yoga Day 2026

Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, Bhagalpur celebrated International Yoga Day 2026 on 21 June at the University Officers' Club. The session was conducted by renowned yoga instructor Shri Shwetank Anand, who demonstrated simple yoga practices and pranayama techniques for maintaining physical and mental well-being amidst busy lifestyles. Addressing the gathering, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. D. R. Singh, highlighted yoga as a natural and accessible path to achieving a healthy body, a peaceful mind, and spiritual well-being. He encouraged faculty members, officers, staff, and students to practice yoga regularly with their families to spread its positive energy throughout society. BAU Sabour Concludes 31st Research Council Meeting for Kharif 2026

Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour successfully concluded its 31st Research Council Meeting (RCM) for Kharif 2026, inaugurated by the Hon'ble Minister of Agriculture, Government of Bihar, Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha. The meeting was chaired by the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. D. R. Singh, and attended by eminent experts including Padma Shri Dr. Baldev Singh Dhillon, Former Vice Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University; Dr. Naveen P. Singh, Assistant Director General (International Relations), ICAR, New Delhi; Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CISH, Lucknow; Dr. Devendra Singh, Director, Sugarcane Research Institute, RPCAU, Pusa; and Dr. Asna Urooj, Former Senior Professor, University of Mysore. The two-day Research Council (19-20^th June, 2026) deliberated on ongoing research programmes and future priorities for Bihar agriculture. The experts emphasized the need for farmer-centric impact assessment of agricultural technologies, promotion of sustainable farming practices such as green manuring with Sesbania, and greater integration of climate-resilient technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), remote sensing, big data analytics, gene editing, biofortification, and digital agriculture into research programmes. They also highlighted the importance of nutrition-sensitive, gender-inclusive agriculture to address malnutrition and strengthen rural livelihoods. The Council further recommended promoting the judicious use of fertilizers and pesticides, improving dissemination of quality germplasm and technologies, and strengthening weather-based agro-advisories through year-to-year weather comparisons, quantification of weather impacts, and precise crop-specific recommendations. The meeting concluded with the approval of key research recommendations aimed at accelerating innovation, enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability, and reinforcing BAU Sabour's commitment to delivering science-based solutions for the farming community of Bihar.

BAU Sabour Concludes National Summer Internship on Soil Detective: Hands-on Laboratory Skills and Soil Analysis Training

Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour successfully concluded its 10-day summer internship programme, “Soil Detective: Hands-on Laboratory Skills and Soil Analysis Training,” aimed at providing practical exposure in modern soil science and laboratory techniques to undergraduate students organized under the aegis of Sabour Consultancy Services (SABCONs) in collaboration with the Department of Soil Science. The programme was conducted from June 10 to 19 and attracted 22 students from Sandeep University (Madhubani), Sri Sri University (Cuttack), Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya University (Gorakhpur), and Usha Martin University (Ranchi). The internship offered hands-on training in soil sampling, soil fertility assessment, interpretation of soil test reports, nutrient diagnostics, laboratory safety procedures, and the operation of advanced analytical instruments. Through practical sessions, expert lectures, and field demonstrations, participants gained valuable skills relevant to agricultural research, extension services, and sustainable land management.

BAU Sabour's SABCONs Initiative Attracts Students from Across the Country

Under the Paid Internship Programme of Sabour Consultancy Services (SABCONs), Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour is attracting students from reputed institutions across the country for hands-on research training. As part of the initiative, Ms. Isha Jaiswal, an M.Sc. student from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI), West Bengal, joined the Molecular Genetics and Breeding Laboratory on 12 January 2026 under the mentorship of Dr. Tirthartha Chattopadhyay, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding. She successfully completed her research project, "Molecular Marker-Assisted Selection of Desirable Tomato Segregants," on 17 June 2026.

Hon’ble Chancellor Reviews Academic and Administrative Progress of BAU Sabour

During the programme, the official logo, brochure, and promotional song of the mega mango event were unveiled, marking the formal launch of the national-level celebration dedicated to Bihar’s rich mango heritage. The Hon’ble Chancellor appreciated the university’s initiative to promote scientific horticulture, mango diversity, farmer innovation, and entrepreneurship through the event. The promotional song highlighted the sweetness of Bihar’s mangoes and the cultural identity associated with mango cultivation.

BAU Sabour Organizes Brainstorming Session on Strategies to Curtail Fertilizer Consumption in Bihar

Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, in collaboration with the Indian Society of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (ISSLUP), Sabour Chapter, organized a Brainstorming Session on “Strategies to Curtail Fertilizer Consumption in Bihar” on June 05, 2026, marking the observance of World Environment Day. The programme was conducted under the patronage of Dr. D. R. Singh, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BAU, Sabour, with participation from renowned scientists, academicians, industry experts, and researchers. The session focused on scientific and sustainable approaches to reducing fertilizer consumption while maintaining agricultural productivity and environmental quality. Experts highlighted integrated nutrient management, precision farming, natural farming, microbial inoculants, geospatial technologies, enriched vermicomposting, spectroscopy-based soil diagnostics, and AI-enabled nutrient monitoring as promising solutions for sustainable agriculture. During the deliberations, participants concluded that Bihar has the potential to reduce inorganic fertilizer consumption by 20–40% through improved nutrient management practices without affecting crop productivity. The recommendations emerging from the session will support future policy planning and sustainable nutrient management strategies in Bihar.
