BAU Sabour Concludes 31st Research Council Meeting for Kharif 2026
Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour successfully concluded its 31st Research Council Meeting (RCM) for Kharif 2026, inaugurated by the Hon'ble Minister of Agriculture, Government of Bihar, Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha. The meeting was chaired by the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. D. R. Singh, and attended by eminent experts including Padma Shri Dr. Baldev Singh Dhillon, Former Vice Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University; Dr. Naveen P. Singh, Assistant Director General (International Relations), ICAR, New Delhi; Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CISH, Lucknow; Dr. Devendra Singh, Director, Sugarcane Research Institute, RPCAU, Pusa; and Dr. Asna Urooj, Former Senior Professor, University of Mysore. The two-day Research Council (19-20th June, 2026) deliberated on ongoing research programmes and future priorities for Bihar agriculture. The experts emphasized the need for farmer-centric impact assessment of agricultural technologies, promotion of sustainable farming practices such as green manuring with Sesbania, and greater integration of climate-resilient technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), remote sensing, big data analytics, gene editing, biofortification, and digital agriculture into research programmes. They also highlighted the importance of nutrition-sensitive, gender-inclusive agriculture to address malnutrition and strengthen rural livelihoods. The Council further recommended promoting the judicious use of fertilizers and pesticides, improving dissemination of quality germplasm and technologies, and strengthening weather-based agro-advisories through year-to-year weather comparisons, quantification of weather impacts, and precise crop-specific recommendations. The meeting concluded with the approval of key research recommendations aimed at accelerating innovation, enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability, and reinforcing BAU Sabour's commitment to delivering science-based solutions for the farming community of Bihar.
