“A System to Improve the Post-harvest Quality of Banana using Synthesized Carbon Quantum dots (cqds)’’, (grant number: 202023104654 (germany), dated: 15th september 2023)

Technical description

The present disclosure relates to a system for improving postharvest quality of banana using synthesized carbon quantum dots. In the present disclosure, carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are synthesized by using banana peel using green synthesis method and then their characterization is carried out. After preparation of carbon quantum dots, in vitro and in vivo studies are carried out to assess their performance, wherein in vitro study is carried out on potato dextrose agar media, and in vivo study is carried out on fresh banana fruits at different concentration of carbon quantum dots. The results showed that CQD at 3 and 3.5% is effective in maintaining the postharvest quality of banana during storage. However, the majority of the observations showed no discernible differences; as a result, using CQD at 3% to extend banana shelf life is suggested.

Specific advantages

The synthesized CQDs are promising to maintain the shelf life and quality of banana with reduced incidence of anthracnose diseases during storage. It is an easy to apply technique. As this does not involve any chemical mean therefore, it is safe to use.
