Real-time access through video-conferencing

Twenty KVKs under the jurisdiction of BAU, Sabour are linked with University headquarters via high-band with video conferencing. It provides an opportunity for two-way interaction among the scientists, extension workers and farming community quickly and efficiently. The direct two way communication of the farmers with experts help in better understanding of the farmers problems and in providing the timely and instantaneous solutions Video conferencing facility has helped in increasing the productivity along with the improving the communication and strengthening of farmer-scientist linkage. It resulted in cutting down of travel expenses and saving of time associated with conventional methods of interaction.

             By using TVU system which are lightweight, portable video transmission system capable of transmitting information from the farmers’ field, now it is possible to link farmers’ field in real time with the scientist sitting at headquarters for providing advisory to farmers.

 

1. Impact

  • Enabled university expertise at the head quarter to reach remotely located farmers across its vast jurisdiction.
  • Increased efficiency of extension system by reaching large number of farmers at lower cost, quickly and simultaneously.
  • Direct interaction between farmers and university scientists has strengthened the farmer-scientist-extension worker linkage to a greater extent.
  • With this technological intervention, now university is capable of reaching large No. of farmers simultaneously and quickly.
  • Farmer advisory to farmers on real-time basis

Table 1 represents the activity and participation statistics for video conferencing from the university headquarters at Sabour.

The knowledge sharing on various aspects based on needs of the farmers are oganized regularly with the active collaboration of the KVKs. The participation of farmers in one the rise with this innovative method as it saves time, money and effort. The domains covered under advisory through video conferencing are weed management, vaccination in poultry, orchard management, goatery, nutrient management, mushroom farming etc.
