University’s Nature Club organized One week programme on “Impactful Environment with Zero Plastic-More Plants”
Plastic pollution has emerged as one of the most threatening environmental challenges of our time, infiltrating ecosystems, harming wildlife, and ruining human health. In alignment with the global theme of World Environment Day 2025- “Ending Global Plastic Pollution”, Nature Club, BAU, Sabour organized a One week workshop entitled “Impactful Environment with Zero Plastic-More Plants (IEZPMP-2025)” from 5th to 11th June, 2025. The activities throughout the workshop revolved around nurturing a culture of responsibility and ecological stewardship towards minimum to minimum use of plastic and more and more of plantations. The inaugural session of the workshop held on 5th June, the World Environment Day started with formal welcome, introduction and brief outline about the workshop. Thereafter, a keynote lecture was delivered by Mrs. Shweta Kumari, Divisional Forest Officer, Bhagalpur, who was also the Chief Guest of the function. In her lecture, she shared the activities taken up by Forest Division Bhagalpur in conserving various plants, birds and aquatic species exotic and native to Bhagalpur, some of which are listed in Red data book of IUCN. She also detailed various strategies that a common man should follow to promote sustainable living practices toward a cleaner and greener planet. The programme was chaired by Dean, Agriculture, BAU, Sabour Dr. A. K. Sah, who in his presidential address shared his experiences about issues related to environmental degradation. Mentioning about various moves that university has adopted he emphasized on judicious use of plastics. Associate Dean cum Principal, BAC, Sabour Dr. M. K. Sinha shared his feelings for environment that is being degraded through various human activities. The inaugural function ended with an Oath ceremony for judicious use of plastic and Vote of thanks. In the afternoon at 4.00 pm the Nature Club students participated in plantation drive of Sindoor plants behind Central Library of the University, where DM, Bhagalpur and his wife were the chief guests and Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, the Chair person. The second day of workshop i.e. 6th June was marked by plantation programme in the premises of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Sabour. The Nature Club team along with young faculty participants moved to the school early morning at 7.00 am, where with the help of teachers and students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya planted Gulmohar and Karanj plants at the entrance of the school. The energetic and enthusiastic participation of the students was amazing. On 7th June, the third day of the workshop, a plantation programme was held at Tilaundha farm of the university where fifteen mango plants of Maldeh, Jardalu and Amrapali were planted around the farm building. The plants were also distributed among the farmers. Around 30 participants, including students, young faculty, workshop organizing team and farm staff participated in the programme. The fourth day of the workshop on 8th June was marked by Parthenium eradication programme behind Agricultural Engineering department at 7 am. The eradication of parthenium before onset of monsoon is a strategic step towards its impactful eradication.. On 9th June, the fifth day of the workshop, the Nature Club team along with the participants joined hands with soil conservation and restoration programme of IQAC and carried out the plantation programme at Kola Khurd village under Jagdishpur block. The programme witnessed more than seventy participants including scientists, students and villagers. The programme was organized with joint collaboration with IQAC and Hindustan Urwarak ewam Rasayan Ltd. The programme was chaired by Mukhiya Srimati Lalmati Devi, Ex mukhiya Ghanshyam Mandal, Ward member Sunil yadav, Area manager of Hindustan Urwarak ewam Rasayan Ltd. Shri Shashank Shekhar Singh and Ankit Kumar Singh. Over 70 plants of Mahogni were planted on connecting road and bund of pond near primary school of Kola Khurd. The sixth day of the workshop on 10th June, was marked by Plastic eradication and awareness programme under the chairmanship of Dean, Agriculture, BAU, Sabour, Dr. A. K Sah. About seventy students and scientists of the university carried out slogan march with quotes for plastic removal and its ill effect. The team marched across the university campus, starting from college red building, round the residential area towards Type III quarters, ending back at the college building. Dean, Dr. Sah, emphasized minimum use of plastic by reusing the plastics again and again. He urged to carry jute or cloth bags for marketing purpose. The valedictory session of the workshop was held on 11th June, under the chairmanship of Dean Agriculture, Dr. A. K. Sah, in gracious presence of Associate Dean cum Principal, BAC, Dr. M. K. Sinha, Director IQAC, Dr. Anshuman Kohli, Senior faculty member Dr. R. B. Verma and more than eighty faculty and students. After formal welcome address by Organizing Secretary, Dr. Sareeta Nahakpam, the report of the one week long workshop was read by Dr. Awadhesh Pal, Organizing secretary of the workshop. Dr. Verma, Dr Ranjan, Dr Kohli, Dr. Sinha and Dr. Sah addressed the audience. Dean Agriculture Dr. A. K. Sah in his presidential address emphasized to revive the lost environment by various means. He talked about reduce, reuse and recycle of the resources. He also mentioned of water conservation, justified use of energy, avoid single use plastics etc. The oath ceremony was also held for plastic eradication. The club acknowledges Dean Agriculture, Director Student’s welfare, Associate Dean cum Principal, BAC, O/I Media centre and PRO, Estate officer for providing all logistic support for making this workshop a successful one. Nature Club requests everyone to come together to pave the way for a sustainable future with zero plastic and more plants. The one week workshop was moderated by the executive members of Nature Club, BAU, Sabour, Secretary, Dr. Awadhesh Pal, Joint Secretary, Dr. Sareeta Nahakpam, and Executive members Dr. R. D. Ranjan and Dr. Ruby Rani and all organizing committee of the workshop. The Nature club expresses gratitude to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. D. R. Singh for his guidance, all round support and taking keen interest in all the activities being carried out by the club.

आज दिनांक २४ मई को नेचर क्लब, बिहार कृषि विश्वविद्यालय के बैनर तले पादप कार्यकी एवं जैव रसायन विभाग के शिक्षक एवं छात्रों द्वारा पौधा रोपण का कार्यक्रम किया गया। कार्यक्रम की अध्यक्षता डॉ अंशुमान कोहली, निदेशक, आई क्यू ए सी, ने की। यह पौधा रोपण मानसून के आगमन के मद्देनजर किया गया, जिसमें पाकड़, गुलमोहर और अफ्रीकी ट्यूलिप के पेड़ विश्वविद्यालय के नए कैम्पस के पीछे बांध पर लगाए गए। कार्यक्रम में विभागाध्यक्ष डॉ आर डी रंजन, नेचर क्लब के सचिव डॉ अवधेश पाल, उपसचिव डॉ सरीता नहाकपम, डॉ शशिकांत, डॉ अपूर्वा पाल, डॉ सुदेशना दास, डॉ सुदीप दास, डॉ कुमारी नम्रता एवं विभाग के सभी छात्र छात्राओं ने भाग लिया।

Three students fetched positions among the first five in Bihar in the National Students Paryavaran Competition (NSPC)
National Students Paryavaran Competition is organised every year by Paryavaran Sanraksha, an organization dedicated to improving the environment under the support of Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India & Ministry of Education, Government of India. The competition is being organised to create awareness among young minds and the next generation to comprehend the in-depth complexity of the looming dangers of uncontrolled climate devastation. It also helps in acquiring knowledge on the job skills, competency & attitude to confront the environment challenges & their mitigation. The NSPC-2024 recorded 7,09,173 participants from 45022 institutes and 107 countries. The environmental quiz competition took place between July 1st to Aug 21st, 2024. The registration fee of the competition is sowing of ten seeds an step to promote students the value of plantation and environment in one’s life. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BAU, Sabour Dr. D. R. Singh took keen interest and on his direction and guidance Dr. A. K. Pal, Environmental Nodal Officer, BAU, Sabour and his team facilitated and supported students to participate in this competition. More than hundred students from constituent colleges of BAU participated in the UG/PG group of the competition, the result of which was declared during August end, 2024. The result was announced state wise, where three students of BAU, Sabour marked their positions among the top five in Bihar. The students are Ms. Aditi Kumari from Mandan Bharti Agricultural College, Saharsa, Mr. Anubhav Raj from Nalanda College of Horticulture, Noorsarai and Ms. Himanshi Jha from College of Agricultural Biotechnology, Sabour. Here it is important to mention that under the proficient leadership and guidance of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BAU, Sabour Dr. D. R. Singh who has been a fore player in changing the environmental scenario of university by large scale plantation drive and establishment of societies like Nature Club, the university has achieved the accreditation certificate for green university by passing the environment and energy audits. Today the students are keenly involved in all sorts of environmental related programmes by actively participating in plantations and awareness drives conducted by the university.

आज ५ जून विश्व पर्यावरण दिवसए २०२५ के मौके पर बिहार कृषि विश्विद्यालयए सबौर के नेचर क्लब द्वारा भागलपुर के गौराडीह ब्लॉक के पिपरा गांव में पौधा रोपण का कार्यकर्म आयोजित हुई। इसमें विश्वविद्यालय के २५ नवनियुक्त वैज्ञानिकों ने भाग लिया तथा गांव में घूम कर किसानों को पर्यावरण सुरक्षा के महत्व को बताया। पिपरा गांव के करीब ५० किसानों के उपस्थिति में भागलपुर के मशहूर जर्दालू आम तथा जी ९ केले के सवा सौ पौधों का रोपण तथा वितरण का कार्य किया गया। कार्यकर्म के दौरान नेचर क्लब के अधिकारियों ने पर्यावरण सुरक्षा एवम जागरूकता पर अपने विचार व्यक्त किए। नेचर क्लब के सचिव डॉ अवधेश पाल ने किसानों तथा नवयुवकों को भूमि पुनरुद्धार और सूखे से निपटने की क्षमता पर बल देते हुए बताया की ससमय अगर सही कदम नही उठाए गए तो भविष्य में जलवायु परिवर्तन संबंधित विपदा से लड़ना पड़ेगा। सदस्य डॉ रूबी रानी ने विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति डॉ डीण् आरण् सिंह के द्वारा पर्यावरण सुरक्षा संबंधित चिंता एवम उठाए गए कदमों को बताया। गांव वासियों तथा नवयुवकों को इस पहल में आगे आने की जरूरत को बताते हुए उन्होंने कहा की अपने अपने घर के पिछवाड़े में किचेन गार्डन लगाएए और बैरन भूमि को जिंदा करने हेतु ज्यादा से ज्यादा वृक्ष लगाए। कार्यकर्म का आयोजन नेचर क्लब के अधिकारी डॉ अवधेश पालए डॉ सरिता नहाकपमए डॉ राकेश देव रंजनए डॉ रूबी रानीए डॉ वीरभद्रप्पा इत्यादि द्वारा किया गया।

One week awareness program on Mission Lifestyle
मिशन लाइफस्टाइल को बढ़ावा देने के लिए 6-12 मई 2024 के दौरान आयोजित कम्पोस्ट/बायोगैस उत्पादन पर विचार/हैकथॉन पर एक सप्ताह के जागरूकता कार्यक्रम का समापन 12 मई, 2024 को सुबह 11.30 बजे बिहार कृषि विश्वविद्यालय, सबौर के मिनी सभागार में किया गया। सत्र की अध्यक्षता डॉ. आर के सोहने, निदेशक, प्रसार शिक्षा, बीएयू, सबौर ने की। समापन सत्र के दौरान कुल सचिव, डा एम हक, प्राचार्य बिहार कृषि महाविद्यालय, डा एस एन राय, अध्यक्ष, पादप कार्यिकी एवं जैव रसायन, डा संजय कुमार तथा संकाय के वरीय सदस्य डा शशिकांत उपस्थित थे। इस कार्यक्रम मे बीएयू, सबौर के तीन महाविद्यालयों के यूजी/पीजी के छात्र भी उपस्थित हुए। डा सोहने ने अपने विचारों को व्यक्त करते हुए इस बात पर जोड़ देते हुए छात्रों को मिशन लाइफ के सात उदेश्यों को अपने जीवन में अपनाने का आग्रह किया। उन्होंने छात्रावास की रसोई से अपशिष्ट पदार्थों का पुनः उपयोग कर खाद तथा बायोगैस उत्पादन के लिए भी प्रोत्साहित किया। उन्होंने इस बात को स्पष्ट रूप से कहा की विश्वविद्यालय परिसर को प्लास्टिक मुक्त होना चाहिए एवं केवल बायोडिग्रेडेबल वस्तुओं का ही उपयोग होना चाहिए। मंच पर उपस्थित सम्मानित जनों ने आने वाली पीढ़ी की भलाई के लिए पर्यावरण के संरक्षण पर अपने दृष्टिकोण और विचार व्यक्त किए।
इससे पहले मिशन लाइफ कार्यक्रम के पांचवें दिन बीएयू, सबौर के नवनिर्मित लेक्चर थिएटर में यूजी छात्रों के लिए निबंध लेखन प्रतियोगिता आयोजित की गई। प्रतियोगिता दोपहर तीन बजे शुरू हुई। निबंध प्रतियोगिता का विषय मृदा अपरदन, मरुस्थलीकरण एवं भूमि पुनरुद्धार था। उक्त प्रतियोगिता में बिहार कृषि महाविद्यालय, वानिकी एवं पर्यावरण विज्ञान महाविद्यालय तथा कृषि जैव प्रौद्योगिकी महाविद्यालय, सबौर के 28 विद्यार्थियों ने भाग लिया। विशिष्ट प्रतियोगिताओं के लिए गठित निर्णायक समितियों ने मौके पर ही परिणाम संकलित किये।
कार्यक्रम के छठे दिन बीएयू, सबौर के नवनिर्मित लेक्चर थिएटर में भाषण, फोटोग्राफी, स्लोगन, निबंध लेखन, मॉडल और पेंटिंग प्रतियोगिताएं आयोजित की गईं। प्रतियोगिताएं 11 मई, 2024 को अपराह्न 3.00 बजे शुरू हुईं। सभी प्रतियोगिताओं का विषय मिट्टी का कटाव, मरुस्थलीकरण और भूमि बहाली के इर्द-गिर्द घूमता रहा। भागलपुर के नौ अलग-अलग स्कूलों के लगभग सौ छात्रों ने भाग लिया । उक्त प्रतियोगिताओं में आनंद पब्लिक स्कूल, हैप्पी वैली स्कूल, होली फैमिली स्कूल, दीक्षा इंटरनेशनल स्कूल, डीएवी पब्लिक स्कूल, दिल्ली पब्लिक स्कूल, आद्या पब्लिक स्कूल, सरस्वती विद्या मंदिर और माउंट असीसी स्कूल ने भाग लिया। प्रतियोगिताओं को दो समूहों में विभाजित किया गया था यानी जूनियर समूह (कक्षा- प् . ट) और वरिष्ठ समूह (कक्षा टप् . ग्)।

Hand on training on Vermicompost preparation (One Week Awareness Program to promote mission LiFE action in Agriculture (MLAA-2024) (6th – 12th May, 2024))
The 2nd day 7th May, 2024 of the Mission LiFE action in Agriculture programme was linked with a hands-on training on Azolla cultivation and Vermicompost preparation at 3.00 PM. Prior to this flag down of Krishi Gyan vahan by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BAU, Sabour who addressed the students of Nature Club, BAU, Sabour from Bihar Agricultural College, College of Forestry and Environmental Study and College of Agricultural Biotechnology, Sabour. He pointed out the tragic situation of soil erosion, land degradation and dreadful effect of climate change. He urged the students for taking individual responsibility for saving the environment at all level of their lifestyle.
Thereafter the students moved to university Azolla cultivation and vermicompost production unit, where expert and incharge Dr. A. K. Jha detailed the importance and procedure of Azolla cultivation and vermin-compost production. He made students to visit different part of the unit, explaining every knowhow of the procedure. The various spp. of Azolla cultured in the unit was the centre of attraction for the students where they visualized the azolla cultures in different structure and asked the questions regarding its production procedure, cost of production and beneficial effects of Azolla. Dr. A.K. Jha addressed their queries in a simple way and provided the brief idea about its production techniques, its uses in various crops and also about the precautions that is required during its production and application in field.
Later Dr A.K. Jha took the students to the vermicompost production unit where they were shown two different types of vermicompost production, i.e. heap method and pit method. The pros and cons of both the production methods were explained in a very methodological way. The students were informed about various spp. and number of earthworms that can be used for a particular unit of vermicompost production while briefing about their roles in the composting process. They were also explained about the size of the vermi-pits, materials required and the procedure of preparation of vermi-bed for vermicomposting. The discussion ended with the provision of a brief idea about vermicompost harvesting which included approximate time taken for vermicompost formation and method of its harvesting. The students were finally explained with the processing unit that included sieving and packaging of vermicompost. Dr Jha ended the discussion with brief information about the economy of vermicompost production and its benefits to crops and environment.
The training ended with a group photo and vote of thanks by the organizing secretaries and other Nature Club members. .

Plantation programme (One Week Awareness Program to promote mission LiFE action in Agriculture (MLAA-2024) (6th – 12th May, 2024))
Under the Awareness programme to promote mission LiFE action in Agriculture (6th -12th May being organised by Nature Club, Bihar Agricultural University Sabour a plantation programme was carried out in BAU main campus near and road side of Library back yard and the front of FST auditorium at 7.00 AM on 8th May, 2024. The Associate Dean cum Principal, Dr. S.N Ray headed and inaugurated the plantation programme by planting a tree of Gulmohar trees (Delonix regia) and delivered a speech highlighting the importance of tree planting in our lives and in protection of degrading environment. He said more we plant trees more will be our environment clean and useful for us. More than eighty students of three colleges, Bihar Agricultural College and College of Forestry, and College of Agricultural Biotechnology, Sabour participated enthusiastically in the programme. Considering the landscaping needs of the BAU campus, Gulmohar trees were chosen strategically to provide shade along roadways in the future. The planted trees will contribute towards campus beautification and environmental well-being in the long run. The programme ended with brief discussion on how to care the trees that had been planted and the importance of planting Gulmohar trees. Finally student presented vote of thanks to the principal for encouraging the events. The plantation programme was carried out in presence of faculty members namely Dr. Shashikant, Dr. R. D. Ranjan, Ar. A. K. Pal, Dr. Sareeta Nahakpam, Dr. Anand Kumar, Dr. Ravi Kesari, Dr. Arti Kumari, Dr. Sudip Das and Dr. Abhisekh Kumar, Dr. Veerbhdrappa etc.

Inaugural Session (6th May, 2024)
One Week Awareness Program on Ideation/ Hackathon on Compost/ Biogas production (Waste to Wealth) to be held during 6-12th May 2024 was inaugurated on 6th May, 2024 at 11.00 AM in the FST auditorium of Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour to promote Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) in Agriculture. The session was chaied by Dr. A. K. Sah, Dean, Agriculture, BAU, Sabour. During the inaugural programme Dr. Manish Kumar, Faculty of Munger University, Munger was the invited speaker of the programme. The programme was started in the presence of dignitaries: Dr. J.N. Srivastava, Director Students Welfare, BAU, Sabour, Dr. A. K. Singh, Director Research, BAU, Sabour and Dr. R. K. Sohane, Director of Extension Education, BAU, Sabour. The UG/PG students of BAU, Sabour and faculties were benefitted from this programme.
After lightening of a lamp the dignitaries present on the dias were welcomed by the organizing secretary (MLAA), Dr. S. Nahakpam, who also briefly introduced the workshop. Dr. A. K. Pal, Organizing Secretary (MLAA) gave the outline of activities to be carried out during the one week programme on mission LiFE. Dr. J. N. Srivastava, Director Students Welfare, BAU, Sabour, focused on the importance of environmental protection emphasizing the value of natural resources and their conservation methods. Dr. D. R. Singh, Director Research, BAU, Sabour, talked about our duties towards the nature and relationship between nature and nurture. Dr. R. K. Sohane, Director of Extension Education, BAU, Sabour talked about inculcating the knowledge obtained from this workshop into the day to day life of students. He emphasized to use waste products from hostels for composting and encouraged students to be involved in such programmes. He also gave examples of success stories related to the generation of wealth from waste in Bihar such as e.g. Kothiya village as the first biological village and Kediya, Jamui, the first village to switch to organic farming. Invited speaker Dr. Manish Kumar, Munger University, Munger, talked about the urgency of conserving the degrading environment by taking initiatives from small scale biogas for recycling our daily wastes. Dr. A. K. Shah, Dean (Ag.), BAU, Sabour appealed to implement the United Nations framework of climate change i.e. mitigation, adaptation and implementation. He elaborated LiFE as Little Innovation for the Future Environment. He said that there should be a tangible change when students are involved in such programme. He told that the students should come up with innovative models that can be implemented at the community level for the conservation of natural resources. He emphasized that the aim of such a workshop should be to motivate, innovate and participate.
The inaugural session ended with formal vote of thanks by co-organizing secretary Dr. Ruby Rani.
Technical Session (6th May, 2024)
Plenary Lecture by Dr. Manish Kumar, Munger University, Munger on “Composting/ Biogas Production (Waste to Wealth)”
During the technical session Dr. Manish Kumar, faculty of Munger University shared groundbreaking experience in the field of composting or biogas production, processes involved and its applications. He talked on innovative techniques for composting organic waste or producing biogas from various organic materials, leading to more efficient and sustainable practices. Dr. Manish Kumar highlighted the importance of shifting to composting and biogas. He discussed the 5 R’s concept i.e. Reduce waste, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse to buy non-eco-friendly products and Reform materials. Dr. Manish Kumar enlightened the audience with his thought provoking biogas innovative production technologies.
At the end of the technical session Dr. Manish Kumar was honoured by organizing secretary Dr. A. K. Pal and co-organizing secretary Dr. R. D. Ranjan with a memento depicting the logo of Work is workship-Work with Smile, adopted by university.

Under the aegis of Nature Club, BAU, Sabour, a logo preparation competition was held. Twenty two students participated in this competition. The logo of Ms Komal Kumari of BSc Ag. 6th Semester stood first. The awarded logo of Nature Club was launched by Hon'ble Agriculture Minister, Govt of Sri Kumar Sarvajeet jee, during his visit to university on 14th August, 2023. On the occasion of Independence day, the logo preparation awardees along with other participants were distributed with certificates by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, BAU, Sabour, Dr D. R. singh. Also, fourteen students of Nature Club, who actively took part in different activities of Nature Club were given the Appreciation award.
