Powers and Functions

Subject to the provisions of this Act, the Senate have the following powers and functions:

1. To review the broad policies and programmes of the University and suggest measures for the improvement and development of the University
2. To consider and pass resolution on the annual report, annual account, financial estimates and audit reports on such accounts of the University
3. To advice the Chancellor in respect of any matter which may be referred to it for advice

Ex-Officio Members

1. 1. Chancellor: Chairman
   2. Vice-Chancellor: The Vice-Chancellor, in the absence of the Chancellor, shall preside the Senate
   3. Agriculture Production Commissioner or the Agriculture Secretary in his absence
   4. Principal Secretary, Food & Consumer Protection Department, Government of Bihar
   5. Special or Additional or Joint Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Government of Bihar
   6. Special or Additional or Joint Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Bihar
   7. Chief Conservator of Forest, Bihar
   8. Director of Agriculture, Bihar, Patna
   9. Director of Animal Husbandry, Bihar
   10. Director of Fisheries, Bihar
   11. Joint Director of Agriculture, Education, Bihar, Patna
   12. Director Research, Bihar Agricultural University
   13. Director, Extension Education to the University
   14. All Deans of Faculties
   15. All Principals of Constituent Colleges and all Director of Research Institutes;

Representative Members

1. 1. Seven persons to be elected by and from amongst the members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly in such manner as may be prescribed by the Speaker of the Assembly
   2. Two persons to be elected by and from amongst the members of the Bihar Legislative Council in such manner as may be prescribed by the Chairman of the Council
   3. Six Teachers, other than Principals and Deans of faculties having at least five years teaching experience to be nominated in the manner prescribed by Statutes so as to give representation to all the constituent colleges of the University
   4. Two persons one each to be nominated by the Bihar Fruit & Vegetable Development Corporation and COMFED
   5. One representative of the employees of the University (other than teacher) to be elected in the manner prescribed
   6. Two farmers to be nominated by the State Government
   7. Two eminent Agricultural Scientists to be nominated by the Chancellor
   8. One meritorious student to be nominated by the Vice-Chancellor in the manner prescribed by the statutes
