About the college:
College of Agricultural Biotechnology was established in theyear 2021 in the headquarters of Bihar Agricultural University,Sabour with the aim to cater academic and research excellencein the arena of biotechnology. It is situated about 8 km east of Bhagalpur (the nearest railway junction). Sabour is connected by rail and road links both. Sabour has a Railway station on the eastern railway route. The National Highway No. 80 previously called Assam Link, road passes through Sabour which links Assam and Patna. The college consists of four departmentsnamely, Department of Plant Biotechnology, Department ofAnimal Biotechnology, Department of Environmental andMicrobial Technology and Department of Bioinformatics. Themandated of the college is teaching, research and developingentrepreneurship skills in in the fields of biotechnology andallied disciplines. This is the first agricultural biotechnologycollege of the state established by Govt. of Bihar.

Goals:
- To empower the students and human resources with relevant knowledge, competence, rational thinking and creativity to face the agricultural challenges through plant biotechnology, molecular biology and genetic engineering.
- To strengthen the ongoing research in field of crop improvement through tissue culture, marker assisted breeding, transgenics, genome editing and various other biotechnological tools.
- Translation of basic research of modern biology into useful biotechnological products/outcomes for enhancing sustainability of rural economy and their dissemination at the ultimate user.
Objectives:
- To contribute to the enhancement of agricultural and rural development in Bihar region through fostering agricultural research and technology development.
- To undertake basic, applied and strategic research for addressing regional problems.
- Effective management, enhancement, evaluation of genetic resources and development of improved cultivars, with high quality characteristics for high productivity, resistance to biotic (pests, diseases etc.), abiotic (temperature, drought, salinity etc.) using molecular approaches.
- To facilitate and promote quality education toward development of human resource in various biotechnology branches.
- To develop technologies for natural resource marginal agriculture and allied subjects.
- To frame policy research advocacy and intensify outreach programme.
- To act as an advanced centre for training for up gradation of scientific manpower in modern technologies for horticulture production.
- To promote the exchange of scientific and technical experience and information. To strengthen collaboration with relevant national and international agencies to achieve greater degree of self-reliance in food and agriculture.
