About the college:
Saharsa comes under the Eastern Plains Agro Ecological Sub Region as per ICAR and Middle Gangetic Plain Agro-Climatic Zone according to Planning Commission. It is situated at 25o50'50" N latitude and 86o38’42" E longitude with 43.04 meter mean sea level having minimum and maximum temperature 5oC and 42oC, respectively and annual rainfall 1250 mm. Saharsa with population of 19,00,661 with literacy rate 54.57% and the area is 1,702 sq km is one of the important city of Kosi region. The city is well connected with national highway, east-west corridor and railway. Since historical times, Saharsa has been a famous educational, political and cultural center.
The college is named on Mandana Misra and Ubhaya Bharati. Mandana Mishra was a Hindu philosopher of Mimamsa and Advaita Vedanta. Mandana Mishra, also known as Sureshvaracharya, was a follower of the Karma Mimamsa School of philosophy and a staunch defender of the holistic Sphota doctrine of language. His wife Ubhaya Bharati, who is considered to be an incarnation of the Goddess Saraswati, is also younger sister of Kumarila Bhatta. Mandana Mishra lived in the ancient village Mahishmati (Mahishi) of Mithila in 8th century. Even Adi Shankaracharya had to come to Mahishi for most famous religious debate of his life. Mandana Mishra is best known as the author of the Brahmasiddhi.
The establishment of the college fulfills long-cherished inspiration of the people of the Kosi region for agricultural development of scared but problem-ridden land of the region. Mandan Bharti Agriculture College, Saharsa is the newly established constituent college of Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur (Bihar) with an area of 75 acre. The college came into existence in April, 2007 and performs dynamic and innovative education programme to meet the current challenges of scientific manpower, crucial and significant research, extension services, training and quality planting materials. The present Mandan Bharti Agricultural College provides an opportunity not only for well academic activities, but also for all- round growth and development of students.
The college is offering the degree B.Sc. with Honours in Agriculture under Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur, which is accredited by National Agricultural Education Accreditation Board, ICAR, New Delhi upto 2025. The College campus with Administrative cum Academic building, Boys’ & Girls’ Hostel, play ground, and Auditorium was inaugurated by Sri Nitish Kumar, Hon’ble CM, Bihar on 2015.
Objectives:
- To impart quality education to students in the field of agricultural science.
- To undertake location specific and need based, strategic, applied and adoptive research.
- To undertake extension education programme for the farmers, unemployed rural youth and women by organizing on campus and off campus training programme, farm advisory services for dissemination of advance and suitable farm technologies for their better livelihood.
- To produce and supply of breeder seeds for multiplication of foundation and certified seeds.
