About the college:
Nalanda College of Horticulture (NCOH) is situated at Noorsarai, Nalanda in 21 Acres of land. The district of Nalanda is famous all over the world for the ancient International Monastic University established in 5th Century BC, which taught ideas, logic, grammar, medicine, meta physics, prose composition and rhetoric. Nalanda has place in international tourist map due to its historical background not only in education but also in peace and religions like Buddhism and Jainism. Visualizing the importance of Nalanda district in the field of agriculture especially horticulture, Nalanda College of Horticulture was established to meet educational, research and extension needs in horticulture sector. NCOH, Noorsarai was inaugurated on 14th August, 2006 by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bihar, Sri Nitish Kumar. At the time of establishment, this college was under the arena of Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa, Samastipur which was shifted under the umbrella of newly formed Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur w.e.f. 5th August, 2010.
Year the degree program was initiated: B.Sc. (Hort.) programme is started since 2006-07 & M.Sc. Vegetable Science started since 2020
Objectives:
The main objective for establishing this college are:
- To impart quality education to the students in the field of Horticulture.
- To undertake basic, strategic and applied research for over all development of Horticulture and its allied sector through advance and novel technology development.
- To undertake extension education programme for the farmers, rural youths & farm women by organizing on campus and off campus training programmes, diagnostic services for dissemination of advance and sustainable farm technology for their better livelihood.
- To produce and supply quality planting materials and breeder seeds for multiplication of foundation and certified seeds.
